Here's an example of an iso file I have saved from last years vacation bible school at my church. What I did with it when I first created it was to burn several DVD's from it for the church members. Now I have it saved just in case I need to burn another DVD. Plus with one of the programs I posted in this thread (Virtual CloneDrive), I can mount the iso file and play it just like it was a DVD. Here's a quick video how I do that. I just right click the iso file and choose to mount it and it plays just like it was a DVD.
