Update tuesday was this week so it could be that it's downloading updates in the background and if you actually try to turn it off it should state not to turn it off due to updates being downloaded. Or maybe updates have been downloaded and you need to turn it off in order for the updates to install. Until the updates are installed they could be messing up the ability of your pc to go into sleep mode.
Another thought-I never put my pc in sleep but I thought that with sleep that it first goes into a soft sleep where any movement that vibrates the pc will bring it out of sleep, it's only after it goes into deep sleep that you need to push the on button to get it to come out of sleep. Like I said I don't put my pc into sleep so I could be way off on this--it's just an observation I've noticed on a friends pc which is set to automatically go to sleep after one hour.
That's another thought, do you have your pc set up to automatically go into sleep mode after a certain amount of no activity ? if so that setting might be interfering with you manually trying to put it to sleep.
