I think part of my problem with "The Weight" is that it was in a (truck?) commercial around that same time. Thankfully the Fall's "Blindness" didn't meet the same fate:
The amazing thing about this commercial is that they edited it to have Mark E. Smith's ugly unappealing vocals at the end -- and what's more, the original track has a longer intro that's cut short in the ad and the first line of the song is "the flat is evil"! so they edited in the part about the poster of the blind man from much later in the song. It transcends that awful feeling of having a song you love in a TV spot and it's just a sublime commercial.
