Uncle Meat really grew on me a lot over the years as well. I really like the complex arrangements and all the other random shit that he added on the album. On the new Meat Light set there is an extended version of the conversation (that one called "if we've all been living in california...") and its really interesting. The guys are complaining that Zappa doesn't want to tour but the band is broke. Zappa wanted them to tour without him, but the band members are all saying "you ARE the band Frank.. they come to see you". Really interesting..
Plus theres a whole clip where the NYPD keeps getting noise complaints from their studio and there's a whole thing with 1 or 2 police men b###hing (with thick NY accents) about how they have to keep showing up every day or whatever. I could have sworn I heard this already though. Might be on Lumpy Money somewhere, but still interesting..
I wish there were some interview clips with Zappa like on the other collections, I love those.. but there's still plenty of great bonus tracks, although the 2nd disc has a bunch of doubles for some reason. I guess there was an "original sequence" of the album that was a lot different, but much of it is just too damn similar to the actual album. I guess for purists it is amazing to have though, and it doesn't really bother me or anything.. Just kinda wish there were some more bonus tracks.
Overall awesome set though. Quality is amazing.
