Mark E. Smith - The Post Nearly Man (like the Fall without the music, though if you think the Fall = MES' lyrics and vocals then this isn't a good choice)
I think Jah Wobble released an album while still with PiL; I've never heard it but if it's anything like his later solo stuff (a big if) he might qualify. Surely he'd be a candidate for having a solo career most completely different from his work in his former band.
Lumpy Gravy doesn't sound like the Mothers at all but I don't think it really counts.
