It's not night and day but most people who go in expecting "Piper Part 2" are probably pretty disappointed. And to give another obvious example, Skip Spence's "Oar" is even more removed from Moby Grape. Stuff like "So" is pretty different than early Genesis and Zoot Horn Rollo put out a solo album that sounded more influenced by Zappa than Beefheart. There's also Robin Trower's solo stuff which sounds pretty different from most Procol Harum (though is obviously related to the bluesier Trower-penned stuff like "Whiskey Train" and "Juicy John Pink").
