From a religious perspective it explores theological morality in quite a complex way. From an atheist perspective literally everything anyone does in the film is a complete waste of time. Still worth seeing though.
It's target audience of intellectually curious religious people is probably too small for it to make any money or win many awards.
La La Land will obviously be the big winner. Hollywood can't resist a film that flatters their self image in some way.
2016 must have been a weak film year just because when I think what my favourite film was, it was probably Arrival, a film which I'd only rate as 'pretty good'.
