but seriously, which of those aren't considered to bee among the top couple for their respective artists?
Riot is a unique album for Sly (and soul/r'n'b in general), but *many* consider it his best (or second-best to Stand).
Highway 61 isn't considered one of the top few Dylan albums? It certainly wouldn't be controversial to say so...
We all know Pet Sounds' status.
Of course there are many choices with Zappa, and an entrenched Zappa fan such as yourself might have different choices, but Money is certainly viewed as one of his greatest achievements (and I think so too).
Innervisions might not be everybody's favorite Stevie album, but it's certainly up there with Key Of Life, Talking Book, etc (in short, his obvious classic early 70s run). If it's not top two, it's mighty close.
Everybody knows that the Stones run from Beggars to Exile is considered their best. Maybe most people consider the other 3 in that run to be better, but it's hardly controversial to choose Beggars as one of the best couple.
Village Green is nailed on for being one of the most highly regarded Kinks albums.
And many people think of Revolver as the Beatles' best work, right? Lots of choices, maybe, but again... hardly controversial.
not trying to be nit-picky, but outside of Meddle, these are all pretty typical, obvious choices for these groups.
