Man In Full goes to pot halfway through with that set-piece of a scene where the "hero" (Conrad Hensley, the poor young guy, not Charlie Croker the rich football guy) loses everything as a result of his car getting taken away from him, which ended the interesting world-building of modern Atlanta the book had been doing, which prompts the hero to go on his soul-saving quest, which prompts Tom Wolfe to start preaching at us all to become Stoics, which prompts the stupid ending where the rich guy decides to simply give all his money away and stop being a Master of the Universe, which is such a fantasy that Eric S and I both had a good howl at it. In fact, you could pinpoint the scene as the end of Wolfe himself, since not only does AMIF go to pot, but he's only written/said terrible/stupid things since then. RIP, Tom Wolfe, 1931-98
