I love Secret of Mana

but it has flaws that are hard to ignore. You can spam the enemies with magic, which is pretty cheap and seems like something you shouldn't be able to do. Also, they originally intended it as the flagship game for a consul that never got made, which resulted in stuff getting cut out for the SNES. That really shows in the last %25 or so of the game, when you have a string of boss fights that seem like they should be attached to entire dungeons and then a massive jump in difficulty when you hit the Pure Land. I only died once before that point but when it got to the Pure Land I died over and over until I went back and did a ton of grinding so that I could advance, which really tested my patience. And if THAT hadn't happened I wouldn't have gone wandering back through all the earlier areas and found the Midge Mallet. Is there any in-game hint on where you're supposed to get that?
I haven't played the other games in the series.
