True story - in the late 1990s and early 2000s, there was internet discussion about whether Porcupine Tree were even really a prog band.
I'm not sure why contemporary prog fans need to look to a particular person as representing the genre. There are a good number of excellent bands out there still active.
Thinking Plague, for example, just released a brand new album (Hoping Against Hope) that I'm proud to say a I donated money to the kickstarter campaign (the signed CD just came in the mail yesterday). It's awesome - their best since In Extremis, which was released almost 20 years ago.
