Obviously the story being told in TLToC is very very well-known, and Scorsese took a lot of heat for it from the usual suspects, but it felt much more like a rumination on Jesus (mainly, I guess, that he was both God and man and how that, erm, complicated things) than anything else. Sure, he made some choices that pissed some fundamentalists off, but it was a far cry from, say, Passion of the Christ.
I have a feeling this is a passion project for a Catholic who has thought deeply about his faith for a long time. and no, that's not going to thrill very many people, even those who may consider themselves film buffs. it certainly won't thrill your average Scorsese fan. anyway, I'm not even sure if I'll see it...
