There's a lot of overlap in their styles though. "Fool's Overture" is Hodgeson's after all so he had a proggy side too.
I find it pretty amusing that as soon as they broke up they went in nearly the same musical direction. Brother and Eye Of The Storm are both among the most prog-influenced albums to come from the Supertramp camp (and both show their songwriting skills at their peak for the last time).
then the followup albums, Hai Hai and Free As A Bird are *both* retreats back to the bland pop of the most mediocre Supertramp stuff (like Famous Last Words) but with a shitton of cheesy 80s synths making it sound awful (And they both came out within a month of one another).
Then both of them didn't put out music for a decade before putting out albums around the turn of the century that were nostaliga fests that pretty much replicate the old supertramp style with mediocre-to-decent sucess.
