Well, the first season probably goes down the easiest as it's the least clusterf.ucky one and doesn't go too deep into pointless unnecessary distractions. Sawyer is great (Norville calls him "the most generic anti-hero ever), so is Rousseau, but most of the best characters haven't even shown up yet. For a character who was so useless alive, Boone sure gets to go out on a pretty good note. Kate is generally hated by the fanbase because her backstory gets really stupid in places, Evangeline Lilly is a pretty limited actress (if not actively awful like Maggie Grace), and the show ends up focusing on her way too much for how unimportant she ends up being. That's all later stuff I guess.
I don't remember the guy from River's Edge blowing up.
For my money, the highlights of season one are:
- Boone's death
- The scene where they succeed at creating a running waterworks, one of the ONLY times they actually deal with how they're even surviving on the island
- the reveal that Locke was crippled
- the guy getting sucked into the jet engine in the pilot
- Shannon naked (this happens, right?)
Band Of Brothers is great, though apparently Stephen Ambrose played a big role in the mythologizing of the "Greatest Generation" (according to some article I read), so f.uck him.
