I think calling it a "twist" is overselling it. When I watched it I'd say like 95% of the theater didn't get it at all and walked out of the theater scratching their heads about the last couple minutes. But the movie doesn't require you to get it for the story to work. I hadn't seen [relevant spoiler] since I was really young when it first came out so when I saw Split I had to refresh myself with what the deal was after it ended. But when I did I was pretty pleased.
I very mildly hinted to a friend of mine how Split ended and he proceeded to guess it 100% accurately. I don't think it impacts on the actual story all that much really though if you already know it. it's just a nice bonus.
