What the heck, these guys put out their first album in 20 years last year and nobody told me! Their debut is one of my all-time favourites. This isn't on that level unsurprisingly but it's still quite solid. The band sounds as good as they ever did, the songwriting is solidly above average and there are some nice surprises along the way. Thumbs up.
The Sea Nymphs - On the Dry Land
What the heck, Tim Smith is alive! Most of this was apparently recorded but left unfinished since the 90s but Smith had recovered enough to complete it. It sounds pretty much just like the other Sea Nymphs album, and is pretty much just as good. It's not Cardiacs, but it's still pretty cool. Hopefully this bodes well for more Tim Smith music in the future.
The Aliens - Astronomy for Dogs
It's OK. Sounds beatles/beach boys/psychedelic but not as good as those influences. They've got the sound nailed down pretty well but the hooks aren't anything to write home about.
Killer Mike - Monster
Hey it sounds like OutKast. I can dig that. What the heck is the keyboard line of Ween's "Roses are Free" doing as the main melody of "A.D.I.D.A.S."? That's an unlikely combo. Catchy tune though.
Rose Elinor Dougall - Stellular
Real good synthpop.
Neil Cicierega - Mouth Moods
Best mashup album ever.
Haven't listen yet but next up:
Mike Oldfield - Return to Ommadawn
After decades of milking Tubular Bells, he's turned to milking Ommadawn. What exactly that means for this album I don't know.
