Do people really think it was a prank?

It clearly wasn't. Warren is to blame. He stared at the card for almost a full minute and should have known that Faye would think he was pausing for dramatic effect (you can hear her say "Oh, you're terrible!") and blurt out the name of the film on the card without bothering to read the rest. Look at Warren's face. He had a senior moment. A normal person would have said something or at least excused himself to alert someone offstage about the mistake,
James Laxton, who was nominated for "Moonlight"'s cinematography was in my film class in high school (it's an art high school and film was our "discipline" or major). He was a junior when I was a freshman but all grades were mixed together so I was in his class for a coupe of years. Super nice, quiet guy who made dope films. Had no idea he was even in the industry. Pretty proud of the guy, especially since the cinematography is one of the main things I noticed in "Moonlight".
