Yeah it's real good. No way this will get the same sort of widespread acclaim that 69 got since the songs are so personal (hipster couples aren't going to be slow-dancing to "Weird Diseases" at their weddings). but the calibre of the songwriting is damn near close. Still need more time with the 2nd half of the album, but the first 2 "discs" (so to speak) are pretty great for sure.
Animal Collective - The Painters EP
It's OK. Kinda Bonkers and Jimmy Mack would have improved Painting With.
Dizzy Mizz Lizzy - Forward In Reverse
The more I listen to this the more I'm almost convinced that this could be almost as good as their debut. That these guys are so obscure (outside of Denmark anyway) is criminal.
King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard - Flying Microtonal Banana
This band keeps killing it. Going to see them next month. Looking forward to it.
Styx - Paradise Theatre
I suddenly got the urge to listen to Styx, I'm so sorry and I apologise.
The Lemon Twigs - Do Hollywood
A pair of teen brothers who love the Beatles the Beach Boys and the Who, made an album that sounds like their influences. They have a fun gimmick where they switch the role of guitar/lead vocals and drummer/harmony vocal between each other from song to song. One of the brothers does a pretty enjoyable Keith Moon impression on the drums which is fun.
They're clearly very talented, the songwriting takes some interesting turns so it's not just 60s nostalgia rehashes. It's a good record but they're at the start of their careers. if they continue to grow their skills they could be great in the future. An act to keep an eye on for sure.
