I actually remember the night XFL premiered, it was my freshman semester of college, it was hyped harder than possibly any other television event that year and died quicker than a batch of sea monkeys. Me and all my wrestling-watching friends in the dorm all gathered round the rec room to check out the first game, our mild curiosity bottoming out into "what the hell is this shit" territory in record time. Somebody probably switched over to the World Series (I think it was the year they had that Mets/Yankees thing) some point and never looked back. And yeah, my timeline was pretty screwed.
Speaking of "dumber stuff said everyday", member that guy John Rocker? Probably one of the earliest victims of "outrage culture" (if earlier jackasses like Axl Rose don't quite count), though it seems it didn't actually affect his career that much other than making him a cause celebre for the anti-PC crowd for like a minute.
