I just checked out the new Sufjan track. Not sure about going all in with the hip hop autotune, I guess it shouldn't be too much of a surprise he'd go the opposite direction to his folky last album though. As a song it seemed okay.
If I remember Be Here Now got ecstatic reviews at first and was reframed as the disastrous symbol of the encroaching death of Britpop shortly afterwards.
I've never actually heard Great Escape for some reason, but I'm pretty sure it got a fair bit of stick retrospectively for lapsing into self parody and as another symbol of the decline of the mid 90's brit indie scene.
