I think that's a more interesting one that stuff that fits the question more exactly.

Most artists are going to have some drop off in quality at some point, even if they bounce back, but the Dada to Constrictor transition is remarkable on a number of counts.
At first glance it looks horribly depressing that that was his big comeback, but he didn't even tour to support Dada, and Constrictor didn't actually sell or chart very well, it just had a monster tour. Of course, when he actually got back to making good albums the did even more poorly than Constrictor.
