I laughed very hard at the "they revert immediately to their old roles" bit. But it's interesting to even think that Peter was "in charge"--didn't Tony and Mike write most of the music anyway? Maybe I'm just thinking of "Watcher Of The Skies" which is mostly Tony and Mike's.
I guess I didn't hate Phil's Tarzan songs, but I didn't exactly like it either!
"he didn't realise just how inescapable he was in the 80s and 90s (and that many people resented him for that) until looking back after it was all over" - This is an interesting comment. He DOES realize that No Jacket Required (which probably very few people talk about or buy anymore) sold like 15 million copies right? (And what did he say about THAT one?--Does he talk about the dated 80 sounds he went for? I mean, some people still enjoy "Sussudio," even without resorting to Patrick Bateman comments, but the production on that song is so hilariously bad that I'm reminded of Prindle's crack about the mid 80s Beach Boys sounding like "one guy playing all the instruments on his giant Casio keyboard"!) I know he had movie roles too, like Buster, but didn't know anyone really gave a crap about them anymore today. Does he talk about Bob Hoskins anywhere?
Does anyone really even KNOW the details of his "screwed up personal life" anyway besides the fight with the wife that led to "In The Air Tonight"?
