If my memory serves (and it's been a while)

[also, I've yet to comment on any of your Lost posts, but back when I first watched it in middle school I thought it was the greatest work of entertainment I had ever seen, and I've always been afraid of revisiting it because I'm sure I'd see now that the emperor, to some degree, has no clothes. But i've really enjoyed reading your comments to remind myself of just what happened in the show]
But anyway, if I recall correctly, season three gets kinda meh in the middle, grows into a pretty damn fantastic finale, and then the first bit of season 4 is generally considered among the show's highest peaks. At the very least, one particular early season 4 episode, about Desmond, is generally considered its finest hour.
