Hilariously, some best-of-episodes list that I scrolled through (trying to avoid spoilers though) to see what I need to prepare myself for. It named the fourth episode of the show ("Walkabout," about Locke's past) as the best of the show.
Also, I kind of know who "Jacob" is and they're just now getting around to mentioning that guy by name. This led to a really dumb scene of some kid tied up Clockwork Orange style with his eyes held open while a bunch of ridiculous "subliminal" "God Loves you" crap was blared into his face.
Tonight's episode has me very suspicious as to what I'm going to watch--a flashback episode about Hurley getting all pissed off about his "curse" after he wins the lottery, with Cheech Marin turning up as his dad and a dumb scene of some b###hy Asian reporter girl getting killed by a terrible CGI meteor (oh, hilarious!) The episode was doing just fine until it threw the Cheech Marin character's dumb "we make our own luck" moral in our face by having Hurley magically start a car while it's rolling down a hill, to avoid disaster. Oh, goodie: corny moralizing mixed with MAGICAL POWERS?!? Yeah, this show's about to go off a cliff, isn't it?!?
A shame, if so--it was doing just fine for two whole seasons and a nice season 3 opener there!! I hate it when shows do the diminishing-returns thing. But of course, I'll end up seeing this thing through to the end.
