I feel like we talked about all of these recently. I will say that I need to listen to the Miles set more but I immediately felt that it was the best live recording of his mid-60's quintet, beating "official" early releases "My Funny Valentine + Four & More" and "Live At The Plugged Nickel" (though the former is missing Wayne Shorter). Part of the reason is, while it's great to hear them riff on standards, they had some ####ing great original compositions (as Davis, Hancock and Shorter were all gifted composers) so I'd rather hear those.
Also, while I've always considered "3 Faces" to be my favorite Lateef album and one of my favorite jazz albums ever, I'll admit that I'm probably overrating it. Objectively, his best release is probably the 2 volume "Live At Pep's" set (especially volume 1).
That JJ Johnson song is cool and yeah, that's a killer Roach solo.
