re "authorship," directors aren't always the dominant personality and with things like Star Trek (or most TV) they usually aren't. For example direction shapes and actors performances but you have less authority to do that on a TV show with a rotating stable of directors where you have to deal with consistent characters and themes that are defined by the show runners. TV writers are generally more dominant and more famous than directors, but what the directors do is still very important, even when the results are workmanlike and anonymous.
