Spoon are the 3rd or 4th best band of the 20th century

Which is weird, because their best album is actually from the late 90s. But they've made 9 albums in 20 years, along with a handful of kickass EPs, and not a single dud among them, exploring straight-ahead Pixies alternative rock, indie funk, broken blue-eyed soul, minimalist krautrock-style noise jams, electronic/dance pop, psychedelic dub-style post-punk, and more. More! And if you throw Divine Fits into the mix and the legacy becomes even more daunting. Among conventional American rock n' roll acts of the modern age, their accomplishments are unparalleled. They are universally heralded as the most consistently excellent modern rock band in the world, AND they put on a hell of a live show too.
Ministry and De La Soul are pretty good too.
