Kate Bush is the one exception I know of. Director's Cut came out 18 & 22 years after the albums it drew from, although most of the tracks are remixes and only a few are rerecordings. The reason it manages to be good is a) it came out at a time when Bush's original music was still good and b) it took stuff from non-classic albums, instead of c) being a throwback to the glory days which this type of project tends to be.
Jeff Lynne rerecorded a bunch of ELO stuff recently, didn't he?
