Anyway the essay is probably garbage

I seriously doubt that Yes were aiming for sonata form anyway. It sounds more of a pop song stretched out to 20 minutes more than anything else. there's no way you can consider the mid-section of the song to be "development section". Saying that Yes tried to make a development section with no tonal-instability is an oxymoron.
I just find the fact that someone tried to analyse it from the perspective of sonata form (and a feminist deconstruction of sonata form) to be amusing.
