I don't know *why* though--I thought the whole thing was a dull mess and that Pitt's protagonist character is one of the lamest in history, a truly awkward mash-up of weariness and seeming invincibility.
I warmed myself to Girl With The Dragon Tattoo (at the very least it has a terrific final scene!) and Gone Girl, but it seems that Fincher is addicted to glorifying trash now.
I'm reminded of how Steven Soderbergh, who is about the same age, did second unit direction on that Hunger Games movie, you posted about that. Maybe auteurs just get goofy in their mid 50s.
