His importance was only appreciated long after his death

At the time Bach was considered a dated dinosaur writing in a cringy dated style of music while the "real musicians" were writing in the Proto-classical style. The idea of him being an important composer would have been laughed at and even his own children didn't believe his own composition were "the most important works of all time". Only a small number of connoisseur appreciated his genius.
I may get mocked for stating the importance of MTYCDT but history would eventually vindicate me as they did for JS Bach
