That's kind of what happened to me with record-collecting. When I was a kid I'd pick up anything that looked... who the hell knows (an LP of square dances, for instance), and then I decided to buy only those records that I would ever listen to. Over the last few years I've slowly (in fits and starts) been ripping/digitizing my collection and I have enough hundreds/thousands of discs left to rip that I don't have the stomach to add any more to it.
Really it's a bad time to go thrift-shopping for LPs in general (and has been for years, since vinyl really took off). Stocks are picked through by resellers and the only way you'll get a good rock or pop album is if it's in horrible condition. After I finish ripping my LPs I may give up vinyl entirely.
