I can't imagine trying to apply the standards of American P.C. hysteria to some place like the U.K. which has a much longer history and larger stable of historical figures that were revered by some demographics and reviled by others. You'd have to pretty much burn your entire country to the ground to be sufficiently rid of all the "triggering" historical references.
On the other hand I doubt you'd ever tolerate your reactionaries erecting anything as unsightly as this statue of Nathan Bedford Forrest, which was only put up in 1998:
