There were game magazine covers in 1996-97 arguing the same thing. Of course Square getting sick of Nintendo and leaving for Sony made for a hilarious sobbing betrayal amongst Nintendo diehards (of which I was one--the idea of SONY making a hit game system sounded silly in 1994...just like the idea of Microsoft doing one several years later made people sneer. Don't forget Panasonic had bombed with the 3DO in 1994-95; there really were people who thought it would be Nintendo vs. Sega for decades!)
The N64's one-game-a-month problem definitely looked like a drought back in 1997. After blowing people away with Mario 64
Nintendo looked like a twerpy teenager with his hands in his pockets.
I don't know what my "stupid retard" thread is, but I can remember some of those posts well enough to know that the "Nin-ten-do" one is about the history of Nintendo, who used to make playing cards and stuff.
There's another board out there from 1999-2001 where I *can* still read the old posts I made, but the hell with it.
