I have a feeling this greatly influence the standard I judge music by.
For example my belief that lyrics have minimal importance. I simply am unable to derive the lyrics of a lot of songs from purely listening to music unless the vocals are mixed very high in the mix of if the lyrics are repeated a lot (such as the chorus of the pop song). I require visual stimuli of visually looking at the lyrics to be able to know what is being said. A lot of time the lyrics of a song might as well be in a foreign language when listening to a piece of music,
However the plus side is that the Central auditory processing disorder means I have zero problems whatsoever of hearing all the individual parts of a piece of music. People normally drift toward the lead instruments (usually the voice) and the primary melodic instrument. Even in the days prior of listening to classical music, I have often elevate music where each instruments have an independent part and hearing how it interacts with every other instruments higher the music where the supporiing instruments have nothing interesting in of itself. I guess this leans itself to listening to music that is harmonically rich and has interesting counterpoint.
Oh well at least it explains a few things about my music listening habits
