I never had a Sega but my friend did and he had two great games: Toejam and Earl (I guess it was named after Pearl Jam?) and Shining Force 2. You may like the latter especially: it's like a 2D FF Tactics but more traditionally RPGish (it's basically a regular RPG except that battles are fought on a grid overlaid on the map). Also I think only the character that gives the death blow gets the experience points. This sucked when Origin did it in the Ultima games (really hard for the shepherd character to gain levels in Ultima IV, for instance) and I don't know why it was done in Shining Force 2 -- that is, if it's done at all and I'm not just misremembering.
SF2 was the sequel to the original Shining Force, which was the follow-up to Shining in the Darkness. I've never played either so I can't tell you if they're any good.
