I had a copy of Mirrors on vinyl that I got from a thrift store

To which I did about the stupidest thing I've ever done with a record. I knew that static was bad for records so I bought a can of K2R's anti-static spray that was meant to put on clothes before putting them in the dryer to kill the static charge. I recorded the first track to my computer to see how the sound compared, then I sprayed some of the K2R stuff onto a rag and wiped the record with it; I then recorded the first track again and compared the two.
Turns out the K2R stuff completely destroyed the vinyl and it sounded like total shit. That object lesson was about all Mirrors was good for.
If you actually want to kill static on your vinyl get a Zerostat, though personally I haven't found any correlation between the static cling of a record and the amount of dust that actually builds up while playing.
