We went to the record store last week and he was disappointed that he couldn't find any AC/DC or P-Funk (they typically get sold as soon as they're stocked); he's gotten all-in on vinyl and that's practically all he listens to, except for when he's in the car. When I got home I remembered I had a beat-up old copy of Highway to Hell in my non-classical record collection, which had just been taking up space in the closet for a few years, and I just gifted him that, two Parliament albums (Mothership Connection and Pin the Tail on the Funky), Get Up Off That Thing, and What's Going On. It made his life and I realized that he would enjoy those albums a lot more than I would with them collecting dust.
I already sold off maybe half of the collection years ago and what's left are those I can't sell, due to condition or commonness or other reasons. I'm copying the ones I don't have on my computer or the ones I have in low-bitrate (under 256kbps) MP3.
BTW it's weird that here I'm just a run-of-the-mill Babbler -- one of the less-knowledgeable, in fact -- but in real life I'm a God-like genius as a record-store wingman. Validation feels good. (He ended up getting Whammy, Argybargy, and Fear of Music)
