I remember the principal at my school being into REM's "Green" and that's something we had in common (when he retired, he opened "Uncle Billy's Tunes" http://unclebillystunes.com/
, so I guess he was kind of hip). U2's Rattle and Hum movie was kind of an event, I guess. We rented it at my house and I watched it with my parents. The biggest rap artists at the time that I remember were the Beastie Boys (who were all over MTV's springbreak coverage), RUN DMC, because they did that video with Aerosmith, and Dj Jazzy Jeff and the Fresh Prince, because Parents just don't understand.
