I remember Pitchfork acting like their split was some kind of cultural turning point, doing that massive article reviewing every single song like it was the Beatles or something rather than a band with three spotty albums. And now here they are with another album that sounds exactly like what they were doing before they stopped.
I saw them live a couple of years back and it was a bit emperor's new clothes tbh. Their tuneless chanty dance punk tracks are, like that entire genre, the kind of thing you can get away with when young trendy attractive people are into it, but when they're being knocked out by a supposed legendary 'prestige act'... they just sound like kind of shitty songs.
I wouldn't say the new album sounds all that bad though. It doesn't do anything new and is still shamelessly derivative of its influences, but its on the more melodic end of their spectrum, which usually where they're at their best.
