Gentle Giant Three Friends finally clicked (after disliking it for a while) and it was a 12/15 type album
Acquiring the taste was upgraded to a 13/15 after hearing the motivic unity of the work
Yeah but with the exception of Harmonium, I haven't discovered a great album yet. Although I will mention that part of the reason I started listening to classical music was I was getting really jaded listening to a lot of album that I previously never heard before and most of them I consider bad and at best were decent and thinking I'm getting closed to exhausting good rock music and close to listening to all of the great rock albums that were ever created. That if there was another great rock album that existed I probably would have to listen to 100 mediocre to bad albums before reaching it. I made the effort to start listening to classical music because of the "middle of the road or well below my standard" albums. I don't think listening to classical music caused me to believe the rock albums to be mediocre but rather listening to mediocre rock albums made me listen to classical music
I will say that I have actually heard Steely Dan prior to the classical conversion. I believe I listened to a few of their albums when I first discovered George Starostin website where I made a view to listen to all of the 3 star bands he has listed on his site.
I remember disliking it and saying that RIkki don't lose the number to be the only good song of their career (which funny enough George marked that track blue) and then not listening to them for a while. Only recently post-classical conversion, I relistened to it and the albums clicked enough for me to liked all of them.
