Well what's amusing about the first M:I is that it's De Palma's biggest box office hit by far but it's rarely talked about as being a De Palma film. It's got plenty of De Palma-ish camera moves and setups and the usual Hitchcock plot twists and wrong-man-accused junk anyway.
Don't forget he immediately blew his hitmaker credibility to smithereens with Snake Eyes, and then blew it even further with Mission To Mars.
I thought by now that Ghost Protocol was the most acclaimed of the movies and that was full of Brad Bird doing "human cartoon" stuff like the Dubai sequences or the "real life game of Tetris in a parking garage" fight with the villain at the end.
