Saw Fleet Foxes live last night. Good show, though I'm not as into their newest album and they mostly played songs from that, so I'd say I still preferred the show I saw from them back in 2011.
Last month's What's Spinning I was talking about how into the new rap group Brockhampton I was. and that's totally solidified now. Both albums they've put out this summer are fantastic and have everything I want from rap music. Super diverse and fun. Great verses, great hooks. I absolutely love how much chemistry the whole group has with each other. their best songs have such great momentum to them cus every-time a new member comes in to add his bit the song changes and develops in new directions, which makes their music really propulsive and addictive.
Viceland did a documentary show about them going on their spring tour prior to them making their current albums. And I found it surprisingly relatable. seeing a bunch of young dudes with big ambitions who also dont really know what they're doing yet really reminded me of my own experience. It's also fascinating to see them see them right on the edge of making the artistic breakthrough that they've now reached, but not quite there yet. I could see all the problems with that incarnation of the group and I think they could as well, but they still had to push through it to get to the next stage. Also in the first episode they tour to Vancouver and play a venue that my own band has played before so that was cool to see. (and they're playing there again in a couple weeks, but it sold out before I could buy a ticket which I'm genuinely kind of bummed about)
I posted about that weird-ass Trevor Horn album last week. But I've still been enjoying it, even if I still can't really believe it exists.
the new LCD Soundsystem album has been gradually growing off me even considering how lukewarm I was on it to begin with. I think I'm just about done listening to it.
The new Sparks album I was also lukewarm on to begin with, but of course this is one that's been growing on me. I don't think I'd put it above Lil Beethoven, HYL, or FFS but it's at least as good as Exotic Creatures and maybe even better.
I download the new Foo Fighters album, but I haven't listened to it yet. They're albums are usually pretty reliably decent though.
