In the past couple of days, quite a bit of James Brown

As much as I love the guy's music, holy crap was his career ever inconsistent. First three/four albums were decent late '50s/early '60s singles comps with little redundancy (only "Try Me" appears on two albums), but the rest of the '60s, aside from Live at the Apollo (his best album until Sex Machine) and the Out of Sight LP, are stupid cash-ins: instrumental albums, recycled tracks surrounding one or two new tracks, crappy sequels to Live at the Apollo (both actually live and pseudo-live). The tail end of the decade 1968-1969 saw some improvement, with James actually trying to make albums, but that didn't stop the flow of cash-ins. And for every great album like a Sex Machine or a The Payback in the 1970s, you'd have a Get On the Good Foot (good, but not one of the better sprawls I've heard) or a Reality. I haven't really even gotten into the 1980s yet, and I'm not exactly looking forward to it either. I only know "Living in America", which is fine enough in the context of Rocky IV, but I can't imagine an LP of this sort of stuff.
