So it seems like Beck may have fallen the f*uck off

Despite the previous album winning the Grammy (and prompting yet another rant from Kanye), most longtime fans can agree that it was pretty bland, right? I mean, I've never liked "Sea Change" so a self conscious sequel was never gonna go down well with me but even fans of "Sea Change" seemed to be fairly indifferent towards the last one. And by most fans' accounts (haven't read any professional reviews, as I usually don't), the new album is blatant sell-out bullshit. Beck working with Adele's producer, resulting in the sound of an out of touch 47 year old attempting to replicate what he's been hearing on top 40 radio lately. That pretty much describes the singles from the album I've heard, so I probably won't listen to this one (didn't hear the last one aside from the singles either). This is sad, because I've been a fan since day 1 (picked up the deluxe version of "One Foot In The Grave"- some nice throwaways on there).
It'll be interesting to see if he can bounce back but I've always had a theory I call "The 2 Shitty Albums" theory. Basically, unless an artist is top tier and/or a legend who's been cranking out an album every couple of years for decades, 2 shitty albums in a row usually means they're done. I'm sure there are exceptions but I can't think of any.
