How do "Chapter 24" and "Take Up Thy Stethescope And Walk" fit into the overarching themes of Piper? Those two always felt really out of place to me, one being a Roger song, the other almost seems like an attempt to capitalize on the brief popularity of Eastern mysticism in psychedelic rock or some shit.
Logan is perhaps not as good as you've heard (the plot is Fury Road-level bare bones and the antagonists aren't necessarily compelling in their motivations), but it certainly spends time actually developing its weightier themes, to a greater degree than any other superhero movie outside of perhaps select moments of the Nolan canon. There's no question that a lot of the critical acclaim for it was due to the timing -- in contrast to DisneyMarvel's films (which have boiled down to a formula you can set your watch to at this point) and the still-flailing-about DC/WB dumpster fires, it benefits from actually functioning as a proper film with an actual beginning, middle and end. Of course, all of that would mean a hell of a lot more if they stopped making X-Men films after this one, but there are three more of these goddamn things coming out next year.
I don't know what it is exactly, but something tells me you'd also enjoy Deadpool, for what it is.
