I've been to a few KC shows of this latest incarnation already, but this one really takes the cake for being an outright endomorph convention. Damn, people... try a plate of vegetables once in awhile. By far the most visually unappealing audience I've ever before seen at a concert.
The show itself was right up to par. Sound wasn't great at the start, but they got that figured out in relatively short order. I'd have loved to see a Fracture, but we weren't to be among the lucky few who have seen one this year. The Red songs, which had been a real hook for this group in 2014 and 2015 when this lineup debuted, have left the setlist in favor of more from Lizard the debut (we got all of the first album except for I Talk to the Wind - even Moonchild).
I was a little bit concerned about venturing to downtown Newark on Halloween - especially after yesterday's terror incident in NYC - but the walk from the train station to the venue was incident-free in both directions, and despite no security protocols in place at NJPAC (quite a contrast to most NYC venues) the only detonations at the concert came from the three-drum lineup.
