and yeah, the songs just seem rather shapeless and the production is so oppressive and cluttered. The most interesting parts are buried (the end of "Pills", the outro of "Los Ageless". It shows off neither her voice nor her guitar playing to particularly good effect. Going back and listening to "Rattlesnake" is a breath of fresh air in comparison.
I'd say "Happy Birthday Johnny" is the best track, because it's at least pretty, but it's still not as good as the ballads on the prior album ("I Prefer Your Love", with the harmonic shifts in the prechorus, or "Severed Crossed Fingers", which makes great use of its riff in the bridge).
