Twin Peaks Season 3 Episode 12: "Let's Rock!"
-The creepy backwards-noise music playing when Sarah Palmer has her new 2017 freakout is from....*drum roll*....Fire Walk With Me!!! It plays when Laura gets murdered in the train car!!! And elsewhere, IIRC. Of all the things I'm stunned that they brought back, bringing THAT back was probably the thing I'd least expect short of a f***ing Billy Zane or Robyn Lively cameo!!
-Good work too by Grace Zabriskie who still has that Grace Zabriskie creepiness. I guess I don't want to get too hung up on the idea of her getting flashbacks from looking at a bag of turkey jerky. One of Lynch's most reliable actresses.
-THE CEILING FAN!!!!! *whackwhackwhackwhackwhack*
-I wonder if they built a new Palmer house, or if that's the old one in the same place....well, looks like they've done a bit of remodeling in the area...
-This third or fourth Dr. Jacoby scene doesn't seem so humorous anymore. I don't mean you're not supposed to laugh, I mean by this point he really does just seem like an Alex Jones-type dumbass. (Does Lynch KNOW about Dr. Gene Scott? I feel like I can't be wrong about that, though I've barely watched any Dr. Gene Scott and he doesn't get a lot of references in our culture like Jones does)
-As if to further underscore the distance between 1989-90 and now, mysterious texting and Google Maps have entered the plot.
-Oh, I get it. Lynch has a Gordon Cole scene with the girl from Skyfall because she's French, as a reference to when he said "that's the kind of girl who'd make you wish you spoke a little French" about Shelly in the old series. Hey, I got that one!!
-Amusing pauses in the conversation between Gordon and Albert. In fact I think I may have laughed even harder at that one pause than when Albert told Sheriff Truman he loved him back on the original show.
-Don't we all wish that Harry Dean Stanton had "kept his blood" a little longer...
-Hitting Dougie in the head with the baseball had me thinking of Santa's Little Helper on The Simpsons getting bonked with a frisbee.
-The synth hum in Ben Horne's wall is Josie Packard's cameo, according to one silly (or not?) AV Club theory....
-I don't know who Tim Roth's character sniped in that kill scene (the prison warden? basing that off the credits) but it played almost as an antidote to all those dumb Tarantino-movie scenes where somebody who's (gasp) actually guilty gets killed right in front of their kid, so Tarantino can rub "yeah that's right, right in front of the kid, tough s*** if you don't like it!!" in our faces.
-As if to underscore the point (I wish), a Tarantino actor (Clark Middleton, who was in Kill Bill and Sin City) turns up as a dwarf-behind-a-desk for a scene with Audrey Horne that I'd classify as being about 15 percent funny and 85 percent "when is this going to end?" I get that there's some subtext that AV Club fleshed out a little bit for me (when they weren't busy fighting over whether or not "Tammy" is giving a bad performance--and now they're all bashing Sheryl Ann Fenn, too), but overall this wasn't one of the new show's stronger scenes.
-(I mean, assuming we're done with Jim Belushi and his brother, those two exited at just the right time, no?)
-(Ignore in that dumb comment I just made a couple comments up, that I forgot that Tim Roth and Jennifer Jason Leigh were both in the last Tarantino movie. Deuhrbleurgh.)
