Not a prude, just...
My sister has solved the Scary-Stories-to-zTell-in-the-Dark situation: my eldest nephew turns 9 this month and I want him to have the Scary Stories omnibus, but he has three younger brothers whom the illustrations are liable to scare (let's face it, they're the scariest part of the books by a mile) but I don't want him to miss out waiting until his infant brother grows up. We'll just keep them with Mom. Ass-easy solution that somehow was hard to come up with.
The really cool part about having young nephews is being able to shape their literary tastes. For Christmas this year I'm giving the family the Chronicles of Prydain, the eldest nephew Scary Stories etc, the next-eldest some Amelia Bedelia, will think of the third. I hope to shape their musical tastes as well.
